As we all know, Sri. P.J Antony, a unique name in the field of Malayalam Theatre and Cinema, was the doyen of Malayalam stage and screen for over two decades. He was the first South Indian to receive the President's 'Bharath Award' for being the Nations Best Actor for his role in the film NIRMALYAM directed by Sri. M.T Vasudevan Nair in the year 1973. Sri. P.J Antony has always been revered and remembered by the people not only for his contributions as dramatist, actor, director of cinema and drama, script writer, lyricist, novelist and story teller but also as a great humanist and social activist. His role in the famous Naval mutiny during the freedom struggle will always be remembered by every citizen of this proud nation and also his roles as activist in several struggles during his life time including the one for the establishment of Cochin Shipyard.

His life after those two decades of reverberating life on the stage and theatre was one of misery and poverty. Like many other great artists, he also forgot to live his life when giving it completely to his passion - the stage and theatre. He returned back to his hometown penniless after those years of glory and renown and was not even able to find a dwelling for himself and family; like a true film story. But he never give up even in those tumultuous times and the artists in him as always was in his elemental best producing wonderful works in many different forms of stage and screen. The mesmeric life of one of the greatest artists of our time had come to a sad and abrupt end on 14^th of March 1979 at early age of 53.

P.J Antony Memorial Foundation was a humble initiative by the friends and comrades of P.J. Antony to keep alive the memory of this great artist and also to enlighten the coming generations, the contributions of this great artist. The foundation is registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary and Scientific Institution Registration act 1955 with Register No.ER220/96.
